PACKAGING FUNDAMENTALS
ROPE HANDLE BAGS
Handle attachment
bag anatomy

With the chosen handle style and colour, the rope handle paper bags may become either subtle or extraordinary.

There are two equally reliable ways to attach the ropes to the bag body – by glueing or by knots. The handles are always attached to the bag’s upper, reinforced part called the turnover top (TOT).

The glued handles are attached to the bag body permanently. The rope ends are discreetly hidden under the turnover top and come out through delicate slots.

The knotted handles are not attached permanently. The ropes end with knots that can be seen inside the bag. Although not permanent, the knots are securely tightened and hard to undo.

The bag body is made from paper or paperboard. The material thickness is usually around 200 to 300 g/sq.m.

We add reinforcing layers permanently glued to the inside of the bag’s bottom and under the turnover top. The reinforcing bottom pieces have a thickness of at least 350 g/sq.m. The TOT reinforcement is ca. 700 g/sq.m. per side.

nPack’s rope handle paper bags are typically manufactured using sustainably produced papers of European origin, sourced from GF Smith (UK), Koehler Paper (DE), Fedrigoni (IT), Favini (IT),  Arctic Paper (SE), etc.

The ropes that we typically use are 5,5 mm in diameter and the length depends on the bag size and the clients’ preference.

The rope handles can be glued or knotted. There are many colours on stock and others are available after custom order.

Design upgrades

integrated components

The design upgrades for the rope handle paper bags are packaging design elements for extra functionality, custom inner shape or new capacity. Each of them presents a great opportunity to create tailored packaging solutions.

Unlimited upgrade options can be specially developed and produced for specific product and brand requirements.

Ribbons are used as an elegant finishing touch to the luxury rope handle paper bags. They have a double purpose – to decorate and to serve as closure. Ribbons are available in different widths and lengths, dozens of colours and various materials.

The central ribbon has two attachment styles, glued or threaded.

The closure flap is applicable to paper bags in medium and large sizes. It’s glued on the back side of the paper bag and overlaps the front. Its shape and size correspond aesthetically to the bag’s size.

The snapping function is performed optionally by a hidden magnet or a velcro pair. The two pieces of the magnetic pair are hidden behind the paper. The velcro pair, on an opened bag, is visible on the bag’s body and the flap’s back.

The swing tags are additional cardboard elements that hang on a thin string. The tags may have custom shapes and the strings come in different styles.

There are three possible swing tag attachment positions for the rope handle paper bags: on the handle, on the bag body or on the turnover top.

The fixed tags are cardboard elements that have a punched hole or a slot large enough to fit a threaded rope or a ribbon.

This type of tag is suitable for fixing either on the handle or on the ribbon closure.

In addition to the basic bag handle, die-cut handle slots may be present to form a combined handle design.

The extra handles add an alternative way of carrying the rope handle paper bags. The die-cut grip hole shape is customisable.
